11) Side chain
Side chains, if all are attached to a protein model, will become too complicated to understand relations. In this SET, side chains are to be represented by inserting Indication Plate (Bio-301) stuck with Name Label (Bio-303) into the beta carbon positions.
- If a small number of side chains are needed for active sites etc, use supplementary atom parts in SET for assembling them. Some of the assembling examples TRP, LYS> ARG. ILE are given next. If you need side chains to attach to all amino acids, please order additionally.
- Carbon atoms in the side chains are colored in gray to differentiate the chains from the main chains.
A few side chains are included in SET in the assembled form from beta carbons. Assemble your model with main chains frst, then attach residues to alpha carbons, referring to guides below.
- It will be better to attach PRO first, since hydrogen to link with N of main chains is to be removed and to be exchanged with delta carbons later.
- LEU ILE VAL MET PHE etc; They are located inside the structure. Therefore set them up at an early stage. If done later, there would not be enough space to insert your hands inside.
- GLY ALA : They can be attached to the main chain beforehand because they are locatedin positions that will not block construction.
- Others : Set up at an early stage those side chains which are inserted can come into the inner locations of the model.
For displaying a completed model, a plastic base plate and case cover are available to order. Please indicateted dimensions of your model.
