10) Assembling -dimensional struture

Suspend, in the frame, some 10 to 20 units each of alpha-belices and random-coils prepared beforehand. Since alpha-helices are rather firm in structure, you can to assemble them, and the positional relationship will become more clear.

Place X-Y map beneath the frame work and erect X-Z map with 90 positional relationship to X-Y map, and suspend the model in the frame according to X-Y and X-Z maps, employing suspension-hands. Since a completed model might be observed upside down, suspension-hand should be properly applied from all directions.

When suspension positions previously worked out are found inappropriate, determine the positions according to the model, re-calculate, prepare suspension-hands again and set them to balance well.

  • It is much easier to reform random-coils while attaching them in the frame than to make a correct form according to your map only.

  • Beta-sheet portion will form in a clear sape as you proceed with hydrogen bond connetions of the random looking chains. Hydrogen bond connection at an early stage will make your assembling work easier as the model will become firmer.
