2) Main chain and side chain

A protein is an intricate structure of about 20 different amino acids linked to each other. A Peptide bond chain [HN-CA-CO] is called a chain. CB and subsequent parts CG CD CE etc are called side chain. If a main chain is supposed to be a tree, a side chain will be like its branches or leaves.

To best assemble of protein and enzyme models and first construct the main chain in an accurate shape, fix firmly, abd then insert side chains along the backbone as its branches or leaves. In this SET, side chains are not included and will be shown with their labels stuck on the plates.

You can assemble a few side chains using supplementayy parts in SET. Refer to Pt-2 last section.
